Lazy Afternoon at Covo

A hot sunny afternoon to leisurely lunch with great food and company doesn't come by often. So when the chance presented itself over the good Friday/Easter weekend, we were only too eager to bask and enjoy the moment.

Upon incessant requests from the sister, four of us trooped down to Covo at Greenwood (the place we celebrated G's birthday). In the brighter afternoon light, I was able to capture more details in their interior design. The walls, cement screed, makes for a nice big floor to ceiling chalkboard for the staff to doodle and brighten up the place with their character and humour.
The little air well makes for such a romantic private dining area but would probably be a little too hot for a black-tie event. The ventilation could also do with a little help.

Being greedy people, we weren't there to admire the view and the decor but to eat.
We dove straight into ice-cold frozen fruit juices, Sangria and generous platters of bread and cheese crisps. The cheese crisps were really light and flavoursome. But was trying to save my limited stomach space for the tapas platter and my main course. They weren't helping though because the tapas platter took at least 30-40 mins to arrive.

We ordered the warm platter to share among the four of us.

There was a variety of seafood featured - the chili soft shell crab being the most outstanding for me. The escargot was a little too salty and the parma ham wrapped squid was only mediocre. I think I enjoyed the tapas more the first time we came around.

Again, we were kept waiting for our mains. Either they are severely under-staffed in the kitchen or they have poor management skills. Don't get me wrong, the Matrie'd was all smiles throughout the time we were there and very friendly and helpful with the recommendations. They even offered to give us a free jug of Sangria on our second visit. But what really peeved us off was the waiting time. The wait between courses was unacceptably long...
They were concurrently preparing for a small dinner party for 8 in their private room and apparently that was the reason for the snail pace. But for a restaurant of any standing, a table for 8, and a table for 4 and another table for 2 on the outside shouldn't have been a problem...It was such a pity because we had lost our appetite by the time we were served and hence, the food failed to impress us.

My Teriyaki Beef Burger, G's Creamy Seafood pasta from the set lunch and L's cilantro soft-shell crab burger

Well, at least we succeeded in having a leisurely long lunch.
