The Looonnnggg Weekend - Devagi

Waiting for food for the second time that week, brought new meaning to the phrase "L-O-N-G weekend". A couple of us were sourcing for an Indian place to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Thanks to F1 - Sepang, we had a time constraint of 2 hours, so we couldn't venture far. Perfect timing to recall that celebrity chef, Devagi Sanmugam was featured in Asiaone not too long ago for opening her very first Indian restaurant within the close by Thomson neighbourhood.

The place wasn't too hard to find. Tucked away along the same stretch as the now defunct Le Petit Breton the restaurant shared the same problem the previous creperie faced - parking. Be warned, you might have to park as far as the Shunfu Market to get to this stretch of eateries.
The interior is packed and brightly lit and aptly personalized with newspaper cuttings of Devagi and photos of her authentic Asian dishes - rather attention seeking and commercialized unlike the homely comfortable feeling I presume she was trying to achieve with the set-up.
But that aside, what matters most would be the food. Hence, when all our parties finally found parking - I couldn't wait to order.

I'm terribly useless when it comes to spicy food. Correction, I am terribly useless when it comes to even mildly spicy food. I couldn't down a decent spicy pot of curry to save my sorry hind. So the recommended Devagi's own Indian Style Fish Head curry was definitely out...good thing hubby had other companions to share that with him.

A few of us ordered the Dum Briyani with either the choice of mutton or chicken. In addition, we also ordered the Mutton ribs and some vegetables to share. After a painful long 30 to 40 min wait, we finally got our Mango Lassi and soda orders. The food slowly trickled onto the table hence after.

The Briyani was definitely aromatic, reminisce of the rich combination of herbs and spices blended to prepare the dish. The chicken was fragrant and very soft! Really tasty with the briyani, but the mutton on the other hand, was a little tough. Most importantly, it was mild on the spicy hot factor (maybe not a good thing for spicy lovers). In my opinion, I preferred her version to the one I had a Gayatri over lunch on a work day a few weeks ago.

So, was it worth the wait? Not a "most definite" but "it was above average.
Overall? - Satisfying...".
